Experience
As a kid, I grew up in a house full of building projects. My parents were generous in delegating these various projects to me so I could figure them out on my own. In high school I started working in a local architecture firm. One day an architect pulled me aside and told me if I really wanted to become a good architect, I should get as much construction experience as I could.
Fast forward to college, I paid my way through Architecture School at the University of Oregon by working for contractors and doing design-build construction projects during the weekends and summers. This design-build process culminated with me designing and building the first permitted two-story straw bale house in Oregon.
After my foray into learning how to build, I pursued my professional architectural development working at the Seattle-based firm of Olson Kundig Architects (formerly Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen Architects when I first started working there). Here I was able to work on a wide range of project types as well as ‘Special Projects’ such as design and detailing of complex systems, custom fabrications and mechanical devices that slid panels and lifted architectural components.
Today I love dividing my time between residential design and remodel projects and my decorative lighting design and manufacturing company, Modern Verve.
Please let me know how Viridian Design can help you realize your architectural goals, dreams or whims.
Thank you!
