Firm History

We started the exploration into what Viridian Design wanted to be with the question of what kind of architectural designer would we want to hire and why.

Our goal is to be this professional for you.

Please look at the various projects on our site. Each one is as unique as each client is. We do not approach our projects with a pre-conceived formula but listen and respond.

When it is all said and done, architecture is a pragmatic art but with the possibility to transform one's life. Being a part of this transformation is why we love doing this work.

If you are considering a project, need feedback on where to start or just want to discuss some of your ideas, please give us a call.

Thank you.

Personal History of Shea Bajaj - Owner of Viridian Design

I created Viridian Design to provide the highest level of design service to meet my client's desires, budgets and time frames.

With over twenty-five years of professional design and construction experience, I began my career when I started working for an architecture firm in high school.  While at this first job, one day an architect pulled me aside and told me that if I wanted to be a good architect, I should get as much building experience as I could. I saw the wisdom in this advice and decided to apprentice as a carpenter. I ended up paying my way through college working as a builder. After graduating from the University of Oregon School of Architecture, I continued to work as a general contractor for several years building houses and structures I designed. This turned out to be an invaluable lesson in not only learning about how to put buildings together but also how to work with clients and their dreams.

Between my early career as a builder and starting Viridian Design, I worked as an architect for several award-winning architecture firms. Most recently, this included the firm of Olson Kundig Architects who have won a number of awards including the American Institute of Architects firm of the year award.

This hands-on experience tempered with a service-oriented approach is infused in every project Viridian Design takes on.  My goal is to thoroughly understand my clients needs and to craft spaces that reflect these needs as well as being beautiful and intelligently designed. Over half of the office of Viridian Design is made up of a workshop where models, mock-ups and details are made and studied. I have learned that successful place-making is a collaborative effort between client, designer, builder and site.
